WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care. 

Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.

NAME: Prado

BREED: Havanese

AGE: Approx 4 months

Home Recommendation:Prado is a sweet and affectionate puppy who would love a home where he can get plenty of cuddles and attention. He can be nervous and unsure at times considering his difficult past, so he will need a patient adopter who can continue working with him on his confidence and puppy training.

Personality: Prado is a total lovebug! He has so much love to give and adores snuggling up with his people. He is playful, curious, and when he gets really excited, he will show off his zoomies around the house. While he’s still a bit unsure of the outdoors, he’s making progress and will thrive with encouragement. He truly is a little mush and will make a family so happy.

KIDS: Yes, above the age of 10 as he can be startled sometimes

TRAINING:Prado is still adjusting to crate training. While he does not love being crated, he is currently sleeping well through the night in a pen once he settles down. He is practicing walking on a leash, mostly in the backyard, but has successfully walked around the block. He is still a little afraid of the outdoors but is making progress with encouragement. House training and pee pad training are still a work in progress, and he will need a consistent schedule to help him improve.

WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Prado were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.
