Kaya’s Story: A New Mama’s Love, Fierce Devotion & a Wish List Full of Hope
Terrified and trembling, Kaya was found clinging to her newborn puppies inside a cramped kennel at a crowded, noisy animal control facility. She had just finished giving birth, doing everything in her power to shield her babies from the chaos around them. Despite her fear, Kaya’s love for her puppies never wavered.
Thanks to kind-hearted volunteers, Kaya and her litter were gently rescued and brought to the safety of a nurturing foster home. There, for the first time, Kaya could rest, recover, and begin to heal. Tragically, one of her puppies, little Denali, did not survive—but Kaya’s six remaining babies—Katmai, Glacier, Clark, Sequoia, Rainier, and Acadia—are healthy, growing, and thriving under her watchful care.
Kaya remains deeply devoted to her pups—the only love she fully trusts right now. She carefully allows her foster family to handle them, never taking her eyes off them. But away from her nursery, Kaya begins to show her softer side: calm, affectionate, and sweet. And when her foster dog siblings are outside, Kaya forgets her worries and just wants to play—because in many ways, she’s still a puppy herself.
Kaya will be ready for adoption once her maternal duties are complete, and her puppies are in loving homes. If you have experience with huskies or large-breed dogs and are looking to give a brave, beautiful mama the forever home she deserves, we invite you to reach out in late July when we begin screening applications.
She’s held onto hope this far—now she just needs someone to hold onto her. 💙
