Meet Misti!

Misti is a 2–3-year-old, 45-lb retriever-type mix whose journey (from the Bahamas!) has already shown just how special she is. When she arrived, we expected a shy, underweight dog—but Misti surprised us all. Thanks to great care along the way, she’s healthy, smart, friendly, and delightfully athletic.

This girl is a quick study. She learned “paw” in just three tries and clearly already understood commands like sit and down. Since then, Misti has completed intensive obedience training at a professional boarding facility and has truly blossomed. She’s confident, fun, and social with other dogs, with no reactivity noted by her trainer.  Misti has mastered an impressive list of skills, including sit, down, place, heel, recall, and polite door manners. She loves to stay active and thrives with structured play—fetch and tug are two of her favorites! Be sure to check out her video to see her excellent play skills in action.

Because Misti has a high prey drive, we’re looking for a home without cats or small dogs. She does best with medium to large canine companions and an adopter who appreciates an energetic, engaged dog.  Now on the third leg of her journey, Misti is settling into a foster home where she’s working on house manners and continuing to polish her training with her foster mom, who is also a trainer. She has been introduced to a prong collar, which will be provided and is recommended for her continued success.
