Chipwich

Maltese

4 months, Male, Small

WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.

Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.

NAME: Chipwich

BREED: Maltese x Shih Tzu

DOB: May 14, 2025 (12 weeks)

Home Recommendation: Chipwich is a smart, loving, and spirited pup who will thrive in a home that can give him plenty of playtime, exercise, and affection. He’s adaptable, eager to please, and has so much love to give, he’s truly a special dog who will make his future family so happy. With proper introductions, he would likely get along well with other pets. His energetic, happy-go-lucky nature would also make him a great fit for a home with kids who can match his playful energy.

Personality: Chipwich has the sweetest, most loving personality. He’s playful, full of life, and always ready for fun. He adores his toys, especially his chewies and stuffed animals, and can spend hours happily entertaining himself. He loves running around the yard, chasing after toys or even people in a friendly game of tag. His absolute favorites, though, are shoes and pillows (he seems to think they’re better than any store-bought toy!). When he’s done playing, he can be quite the snuggle bug, happily curling up between pillows for a cozy nap.

KIDS: Yes

DOGS: Yes

CATS: Yes

Training: Chipwich does wonderfully in his crate! He sleeps through the night without a fuss and will often choose to go in and relax there during the day. It’s truly his safe, comfortable space. We’re still working on leash training, but he’s making progress. Chipwich sometimes thinks it’s more fun to “walk himself” by grabbing the leash in his mouth, it’s very cute! With consistent practice, he’s sure to become a great walking buddy. Chipwich has been doing really well with house training. He has a lot of energy, so keeping him stocked with plenty of chew toys and activities helps keep him focused. He prefers to go potty outside, but if he does have an accident, it’s always on the wee-wee pads. He’s very close to being fully house trained.

WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Chipwich were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.
