WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.
Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.
NAME:Bratwurst
BREED:German Shorthaired Pointer
DOB: Mar 4, 2025 (5 months)
Home Recommendation: Bratwurst will thrive in an active home that understands the needs of a high-energy, intelligent sporting breed. German Shorthaired Pointers are happiest when given plenty of exercise, mental stimulation, and a “job” to do-whether that’s running, hiking, training games, or dog sports. A family committed to keeping him physically and mentally engaged will set him up for success. Prior experience with GSPs or other active hunting breeds is a plus.
Personality: Bratwurst and his brother Sauerkraut are two sweet and curious pups! While they may be a little unsure at first, once they feel safe and get to know you, their fun-loving, goofy sides shine through. They’re still discovering all the joys of being a dog - like toys, walks, and new adventures. These playful explorers would thrive in active homes where they can run, play, and continue learning what it means to be part of a loving family. Bratwurst is a confident pup who approaches new people and experiences with ease. He carries himself with confidence and is always ready to explore the world around him.
KIDS: Yes
DOGS: Yes
CATS: Unknown
Training: He is quickly getting the hang of potty training and learning how to walk on a leash. He is still a young pup and will benefit from consistent training, structure, and patience as he learns the basics. He’s eager to please and very treat motivated.
WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Bratwurst were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.
