WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care. 

Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.

NAME: Toad

BREED: Plott Hound x Beagle mix

DOB: Jun 23, 2025 (11 weeks)

Home Recommendation: Toad would thrive in a home that’s ready for the full puppy experience—lots of playtime, patience, and love. He’s playful and energetic, then just as happy to curl up for long naps and cuddles. A family or adopter who enjoys interactive play like tug-of-war and doesn’t mind a puppy who will happily crash in their lap would be a perfect match. With his classic “play hard, nap hard” personality, Toad will bring endless joy and affection to a home that can keep up with his puppy energy and shower him with attention.

Personality: Toad and his sister Yoshi are ready to bring joy and warmth to their forever home. Toad is full of energy and loves games like tug-of-war and is great with kids! This sweet boy has that classic puppy mix of curiosity, playfulness, and affection, and he’ll thrive with someone who can keep up with his bursts of energy and enjoy his snuggly side too. With his big heart and silly personality, Toad is sure to bring nonstop joy and love to his forever family. Toad is a social pup who does wonderfully with other dogs—he loves to watch and learn from them.

Training: Toad is still working on his puppy basics—potty training, leash walking, and getting comfortable with his crate. He’s making progress every day and will thrive with a patient family who can keep up his training routine. With consistency (and lots of cuddles as a reward), Toad is sure to grow into a well-mannered and loving companion.

WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Toad were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.
