6 months, Male, Small
WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.
Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.
NAME: Mustard
BREED: Dachshund
DOB: Jun 12, 2025 (5 months)
GENDER: male
Home Recommendation: Mustard is a very loving and gentle dog who truly thrives on human interaction and affection. An ideal home for him would be one where someone is around often, values quality time with their pet, and can provide a warm, nurturing environment. In return, he offers unwavering loyalty, comfort, and endless love to the family lucky enough to welcome him.
Personality: Mustard is full of love and affection. He enjoys cuddles and kisses, has a very gentle nature, and thrives on attention and companionship. Being close to people makes him happiest, and he forms strong, loving bonds with those around him. His sweet and calm demeanor makes him a wonderful companion who brings warmth and comfort wherever he goes.
KIDS: Yes
DOGS: Yes
CATS: Yes
Training: Mustard does excellent in the crate and sleeps there without any issues, clearly understanding when it’s time for bed. Leash training is still a work in progress, but he is making steady improvements and often learns by mimicking his foster siblings, which has been very helpful. He is doing great with pee pad training and continues to make progress each day. Mustard is also responding well to basic commands such as sit, stay, and hand touch, showing that he is eager to learn and please.
WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Mustard were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.
