WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.
Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.
NAME: Coffee
BREED: Labrador Retriever
DOB: Jun 21, 2020 (5 years 6 months)
Home Recommendation: Coffee is an adorable, sweet girl who is still learning to trust the world around her. She may prefer to be the only dog or to live with carefully matched companions. With time, love, and a safe environment, Coffee has so much affection to give and will blossom into a loyal, loving family member.
WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Coffee spent her entire life as a breeding dog in a puppy mill. When her "breeders" decided they no longer had a use for her, they planned to discard her. Thankfully, WISE was able to step in and rescue her giving her a second chance to experience the love and warmth of a real home. Now she’s ready to start that new chapter!
Personality: Coffee can be very timid with adults and needs patient, gentle humans who will let her move at her own pace, but she has shown a special comfort around children. Coffee would do best in a calm, understanding home where kindness and consistency help her build confidence.
KIDS: Yes, loves them
DOGS: Working on it
CATS: Unknown
Training: Coffee is still in the early stages of training and learning daily routines. She will go into her crate with treats and settles well overnight, remaining calm until morning. On walks, she is fearful but will follow behind her handler, showing progress with gentle guidance. When approached by unfamiliar people or cats, Coffee may freeze and squat in place, a sign of timdness. She is still working on potty training and can be confused about what is expected outdoors, so she will need a patient adopter who can provide consistent routines, positive reinforcement, and reassurance as she continues to learn.
