Emilio

Chihuahua

3 years, Male, Small

Emilio came to us from a home where the owner could no longer care for the animals.  If there is a typical male chihuahua, that's Emilio.  At first, he was a little suspicious of the volunteers, but is now a happy little guy that greets everyone with a tail wag, a sniff and a lick on the hand.  He still cowers and runs when you try to pick him up, but he doesn't mean it and has never really bitten anyone.  Things for a potential adopter:

- He will need a little longer to adjust than most dogs - just be patient with him.  Expect the run and hide behavior for a while until he gets used to his new settings.  For this reason, he is a HIGH FLIGHT RISK!  Make sure doors are closed and be careful when opening that he doesn't slip out.

- He does bark when a new person approaches

- He has marked some, but this seems to have improved now that he has figured out the doggy door.  Will need some potty training reinforcement.

Seems to like kids who approach him calmly. Likes other dogs, but haven't tried cats.
