WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care. 

Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.

Home Recommendation: Skippy would thrive in a home with another friendly, confident dog who can help show him that the world isn't so scary. He enjoys being around other dogs and often looks to them for reassurance as he continues to learn to trust people. A securely fenced yard where he can happily skip around and explore at his own pace would be ideal. Skippy also loves watching the world go by from a window, making him the perfect companion for someone who appreciates life's quiet moments. With patience, love, and a canine friend to guide him, Skippy will continue to gain confidence and become a wonderful lifelong companion.

Personality: Skippy is a gentle, calm boy who is slowly but surely coming out of his shell. Every day he grows a little more confident, greeting his people with a wagging tail and showing that he is beginning to trust the humans around him. He has a sweet, quiet nature and enjoys taking things at his own pace as he continues to discover that people can be kind and loving. Watching Skippy's personality blossom has been incredibly rewarding, and with patience, encouragement, and a caring family, he will continue to build confidence and become an incredibly loyal companion.

Training: Skippy is making great progress and continues to learn new things every day. He is still working on feeling comfortable walking on a leash, but his curious nature is a wonderful quality that will help him learn quickly. With patience, positive reinforcement, and consistent practice, he will continue to build his confidence during walks and new experiences. Skippy does well in his crate and sees it as a comfortable, safe space. He is also doing well with potty training and is learning to go outside consistently. With a little guidance and encouragement, Skippy will continue to thrive and gain confidence in his new skills.

WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Some large-scale breeding programs occasionally have dogs and puppies they are unable to place due to medical needs, birth defects, appearance differences, or simply because there is not enough demand. WISE partners with groups working to help provide these dogs with a second chance rather than an uncertain future. We are committed to rescuing and caring for dogs of all kinds — healthy, medically fragile, senior, or those with special needs — and giving them the love, safety, and opportunity they deserve.
