WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.
Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.
NAME: Roisin
BREED: Dachshund
DOB: Sep 3, 2019 (7 years 1 month)
GENDER: Female
HOME RECOMMENDATION: Roisin can be a little apprehensive at first, but she quickly warms up to show her affectionate, playful nature. She would thrive with a family with children or as a calm, easygoing companion for an individual or older couple. She does still show signs of some separation anxiety so a predictable, positive, and consistent environment will be key for her!
PERSONALITY: Roisin is super sweet, though a bit shy initially. Once she settles in, her playful side comes out. She loves to snuggle, especially if you get down on the floor with her, and enjoys playing hide-and-seek with toys under or behind a blanket.
KIDS: Yes
DOGS: Yes
CATS: Yes
TRAINING: Roisin does very well in her crate and rests comfortably inside, though she may need a gentle lead to go in. Currently she stays in a playpen enclosure with space to walk around play. She is working on her leash skills, and she improves with every walk. She prefers to go potty outside, but she will use a wee-wee pad if available.
WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Some large-scale breeding programs occasionally have dogs and puppies they are unable to place due to medical needs, birth defects, appearance differences, or simply because there is not enough demand. WISE partners with groups working to help provide these dogs with a second chance rather than an uncertain future. We are committed to rescuing and caring for dogs of all kinds — healthy, medically fragile, senior, or those with special needs — and giving them the love, safety, and opportunity they deserve.
