Bernese Mountain Dog

6 years, Female, Large

Adoption Alert- We are looking for an extra special home for a Senior BMD!

Cookie is a 6 year old Bernese Mountain Dog who is 70ish lbs and has the sweetest face. She is a very special girl who hasn't had the best life and her story is quite sad. We took Cookie into our rescue a few months ago after one of our amazing fosters saw an add online for a FREE Berner. She immediately drove to pick up Cookie and get her into a safe home. Cookie was purchased from a puppy mill and then used for breeding herself. Her previous owner put her outside at night and let her roam the neighborhood where she would eat trash and whatever else she could find.

Understandably so, Cookie is timid. She needs a lot of time to warm up to people and is looking for a home who will understand her needs. She has begun to take medication to help with her anxieties. She will need a home that will understand she has to stay on this medication and may need to try others to help her become her best self. Cookie absolutely needs a fenced yard and a home with other calm, confident dogs.

Things to know about Cookie:

- She is looking for a calm, relaxed, adult-only house. Cookie was not socialized her whole life, so a chill home would be best. Yelling terrifies her, so she was likely punished in her previous home.

- She loves a dog bed! She loves to sleep on a soft surface, something she has probably never had until now. Her favorite time is the evening when her foster family has settled down. She gets a happy, relaxed expression in her adorable face.

- Cookie has to have a fenced yard. She does not do well with a dog run and it may take her weeks to feel confident enough to come inside on her own. She prefers to do her business off leash.

- She needs other confident, calm dogs in her home. When she is not worried about being chased by another dog, she wags her tail and enjoys their company.

- Cookie cannot be confined. When she feels trapped, she panics. Her new home will need to be ok with her roaming the house when her people are gone.

- She aims to please but her fear gets her a little confused. A tight, predictable schedule is a must. Currently she goes to work with her foster mom and hangs out under the desk all day.

- Her forever family must continue with anxiety medications and be willing to adjust or try new medications, if Cookie needs. She may need to be on them for the remainder of her days.

Cookie is spayed, chipped, and up-to-date on vaccines. If you can give this beauty a forever home, please fill out an application. She is currently located near Flint, MI and you must travel to her current foster home for a meet and greet and to pick her up.

❗️ If you have an application on file within the last 6 months, email us at (not Facebook messenger)- please do not apply again ❗️
