WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.
Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.
NAME: Buffy
BREED: Pekingese
DOB: 8/6/24
Home Recommendation: Buffy is a dream for any home looking for a lifelong friend, cuddler, and part of the family. She would do well in a home that can dedicate time to puppy training and helping her master her manners!
Personality: Buffy has a sweet personality, paired with heart-melting puppy eyes. She prefers to lounge and get belly rubs, but is open to walks and playing to get her puppy energy out too. She loves hanging out with other dogs and new human friends, and is even sleeping through the night already. She is an overall peaceful pup.
KIDS: Yes
DOGS: Yes
CATS: Unknown, but likely yes given her demeanor towards dogs and humans.
TRAINING: Buffy is walking well on leash, and sleeps in her pen at night. She is also doing well with her pad training. An area that her new family can help her is with her overall patience and puppy manners, and continuing to socialize her in a healthy way.
WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Buffy were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.
