WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.
Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.
NAME: Tabitha
BREED: Shih-Tzu
DOB: 1/24/24
Home Recommendation: Tabitha would do well in a calm household with a family home more often than not to spend time loving on her! She would do great with another dog to show her the ropes.
Personality: If you are looking for a bestie this is your girl! Tabitha is a true velcro dog who loves nothing more than to be by your side or in your arms whatever you are doing. She loves toys. She's goofy and playful and stick out her little tongue which is her most adorable feature. She is the truly the sweetest dog! She is gentle, loving and so calm. Due to her difficult past, Tabitha has anxiety from loud noises, people "coming towards her" and new people are very scary at first so slow introductions are important. As long as you introduce people slowly and they move slowly, she warms up after a few minutes and loves to be pet and cuddled.
KIDS: Yes, recommended 10+ in order to be mindful of her training and socialization
DOGS: Yes! She would thrive having another confident dog in her home
CATS: Yes
TRAINING: She is still learning how to walk on a leash. She is doing great with her potty training. She does not like to be crated and prefers to be left in open areas. She is happy and calm to sit on the couch, on the floor or in the bed and relax and go to sleep.
WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Tabitha were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.
