WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.
Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.
NAME: Winifred Sanderson (Winnie for short)
BREED: Doberman x Australian Shepherd mix
DOB: 8/4/24
Home Recommendation: Since Winnie is two working breeds, she will grow into an active dog. Early socialization, training, and plenty of mental and physical stimulation will be essential to help her develop into a well-behaved adult companion.
Personality: Winnie is a fun-loving gal but she also has a soft, loving side. Winnie is friendly with everyone she meets and is very affectionate—expect lots of puppy kisses and tail wags! She loves plush toys she can “de-stuff” and enjoys a hearty bone to chew on. After playtime, she’ll happily snuggle up with you on the couch.
KIDS: Yes! She would do great with kids
DOGS: Yes, she is currently being fostered with another dog and does great.
CATS: Yes!
TRAINING: Winnie is doing fantastic in the crate and prefers her crate be in the same room as you. She is working on her leash manners and getting better with practice. She is doing great with her house training and goes to the doog when she needs to be let outside.
WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Winifred were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.
