Pocus

Australian Shepherd

4 months, Male, Large

WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.

Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.

NAME: Pocus

BREED: Doberman x Australian Shepherd mix

DOB: 8/4/24

Home Recommendation: Since Pocus is two working breeds, he will grow into a large, active dog, making him a great match for someone experienced with large breeds or committed to providing him with the training he needs. Early socialization, training, and plenty of mental and physical stimulation will be essential to help him develop into a well-behaved adult companion.

Personality: Pocus is a loyal and sweet boy!  He is happiest by your side and playing with his doggy foster brother. After a play session, he is ready for a nap and cuddles. Pocus is very friendly and outgoing. He loves everyone he meets and vice versa.

KIDS: Yes! He is very gentle and would do great.

DOGS: Yes, he is currently being fostered with other dogs and does great!

CATS: Yes!

TRAINING: He is working on his crate training. He is mastering the art of walking on a leash.  He is doing great with his house training and rarely has an accident.

WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like pocus were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.
