WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.
Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.
NAME: Mary Puppins
BREED: Shar Pei
DOB: December 15, 2024
Home Recommendation: Mary Puppins is doing wonderfully for such a young pup! She has an incredible temperament—super calm, gentle, and easygoing. She’s not your typical high-energy puppy and is very easy to fall in love with. She listens well, is eager to learn, and is already showing how trainable she is!
Personality: Mary Puppins loves being outside, running around the yard and playing chase with the other dogs. She’s a big fan of sticks and chew toys—and she has the cutest little habit of taking a chew toy and trotting right to her bed to enjoy it. She’s playful, affectionate, and loves to initiate games with her doggy friends. Sometimes, she just likes to sit quietly by your feet and enjoy your company.
KIDS: Yes
DOGS: Yes
CATS: Yes
Training: Mary is still learning the ropes with crate training, so she’ll need a patient family to help her through it. Mary Puppins is also working on leash training; she doesn’t quite understand it yet, but with some guidance, she’ll get there!
WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Mary Puppins were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.
