Couscous

Maltese

10 years, Female, Small

WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.

Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.

NAME: Couscous

BREED: Maltese

DOB: April 28, 2015

HOME RECOMMENDATION: Couscous would be happiest in a calm home, ideally with someone who works from home or is retired. She really just wants to be near her person and enjoy a peaceful life full of naps, love, and quiet companionship.

PERSONALITY: Couscous is an absolute sweetheart who’s thriving in her foster home. She’s calm, gentle, and happiest when she’s snuggled up next to her favorite human. Whether she’s curled up for a nap, relaxing on the couch, or simply enjoying the peace of the backyard, she brings a quiet, comforting presence to any room she’s in. She’s not very interested in toys or treats, but she loves a soft place to rest and will happily lounge near you all day long. She's curious around the house, enjoys watching birds and ducks from the deck, and gets a kick out of spotting her reflection in shiny surfaces.

KIDS: Couscous would do best in a home with kids 10+

DOGS: Yes

CATS: Unknown

Training: Couscous enjoys short, leisurely strolls—she’s not in a rush and likes to stop and sniff as she explores. Just follow her lead and let her take it all in at her own pace.At night, Couscous sleeps peacefully in her crate, and she’s also content staying in her crate when her foster leaves the house. She recently learned how to go potty outside (yay, Couscous!) and is doing great with that transition. She’s unfazed by the vacuum cleaner and is very polite when guests visit. She may get a little nervous when being picked up, but once she’s in your arms, she relaxes and enjoys the snuggles. She’s a quiet companion who doesn’t beg for food, allows gentle grooming like eye cleaning and brushing, and even snores a little while she naps—adorable, right? She’s not able to jump on or off furniture, so she’ll gently let you know when she wants a lift.

WHY DID SHE COME TO WISE? Couscous spent her life as a breeding dog in a puppy mill. When her "breeders" decided she was no longer useful, they planned to discard her. Thankfully, WISE stepped in to save her, giving her the opportunity to find a loving forever home where she can finally experience the joy of being part of a family.

If Couscous sounds like the gentle soul you’ve been waiting for, we’d love to hear from you. Please visit WiseAnimalRescue.org to complete an adoption application.

Our adoption areas include: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.
