WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.
Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.
NAME: Falafel
BREED: Havanese
DOB: October 15, 2016
HOME RECOMMENDATION: Falafel would do best in a calm, quiet home where she can feel safe and secure. She loves being near her person and would happily spend her days curled up in your lap or lying by your side. She’s a gentle soul, still learning to trust and enjoy new experiences, so a peaceful environment will help her continue to blossom. While she enjoys affection, she can be a little nervous when you try to pick her up and may run away—but once in your arms, she settles nicely and enjoys the cuddles. A patient adopter who will go at her pace and let her come out of her shell will be the perfect match.
PERSONALITY: Falafel is a quiet, sweet, and sensitive girl. She’s still discovering what life as a loved pet is all about, and each day she shows a little more of her gentle personality. She’s affectionate once she feels comfortable. She enjoys soft beds, cozy corners, and being close to her humans. She’s quiet and low-energy—perfect for someone looking for a relaxed companion. She’s not overly playful yet, but her confidence is growing slowly and steadily. Falafel is a beautiful little dog with a soft coat and even softer eyes. With a bit of love and patience, she’ll continue to transform into the loving, loyal dog she’s meant to be.
KIDS: Falafel would do best in a home with children 10+
DOGS: She does well with mellow dogs who give her space and don’t overwhelm her.
CATS: Unknown
TRAINING: Falafel is doing well with potty training. She uses wee-wee pads and goes potty outside when given the opportunity. She is learning how to go up and down stairs. So, with some patience and reassurance she will get there in no time! Like many dogs rescued from puppy mills, Falafel is still learning the ropes of being a pet. She will need continued patience and consistency as she settles into her new home. The good news is that she’s a quick learner and is eager to please!
WHY DID SHE COME TO WISE?
Falafel spent the first several years of her life as a breeding dog in a commercial puppy mill. She was used solely for producing puppies and never knew the warmth of a loving home or the joy of being part of a family. When her “breeders” decided she was no longer useful to them, they planned to discard her.
Thankfully, WISE stepped in just in time. Since coming into our care, Falafel has been adjusting to life outside the mill—learning what it feels like to be safe, cared for, and loved. She’s making progress every day, and now she’s ready to find her forever home.
