WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care. 

Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.

NAME: Keel

BREED: Shih Tzu x Maltese mix

DOB: Mar 11, 2025 (13 weeks)

Home Recommendation: Keel is a young pup who will thrive with an adopter who is home more often than not and can dedicate time to his puppy training, playtime, and socialization.

Personality: Keel is a goofball and always keeps us smiling! He’s full of personality and has lots to say—whether it’s a playful bark or a little happy chatter, he’s never shy about sharing his thoughts. Keel absolutely adores big dogs and gets along great with kids. He’s a social butterfly who brings fun wherever he goes and would thrive in a home that loves a little silliness and a lot of love!

TRAINING: Keel is currently working on his crate and potty training and is making good progress. He’s learning to walk on a leash and, with continued practice and consistency, will catch on quickly. He’s a smart boy who responds well to structure and routine.

WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Keel were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.
