Tikka

Beagle

3 months, Female, Small

WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.

Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.

NAME: Tikka

BREED: Beagle x Dachshund

DOB: June 23, 2025 (10 months)

Home Recommendation: Tikka is a sweet pup that would thrive in a calm and patient home where she can feel safe and loved. Because she is a bit timid, she will need a family who can offer reassurance and plenty of attention as they build confidence. A gentle, understanding household will help them blossom into the affectionate companion they’re meant to be.

Personality: Tikka and her brother, Tokky, are two sweet pups! They adore being close to their people and look for comfort. They are playful, affectionate, and incredibly friendly, making them a joy to be around. Tikka is a gentle and timid girl who’s still learning to feel comfortable around new people and dogs. She prefers to take things slow and often sticks close to your side for reassurance.

KIDS: Yes

DOGS: Yes

CATS: Unknown

Training: Tikka is learning how to be outside! Since she is timid, she will learn at her own pace. While she’s working on building confidence outside, busy streets and heavy foot traffic are overwhelming right now. So patience and a calm environment will help her feel safe and supported as she continues to learn. When she is inside, she has lots of puppy energy and loves to play now that she’s feeling more at ease in her new environment. She sleeps well in the crate and is learning how to be independent. She is still working on her house training and will need a family willing to put in the time, patience, and consistency to help her succeed. With gentle guidance and a steady routine, she’ll continue to improve and learn what’s expected of her.

WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Tikka were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.
