Meet Merlot ❤️
When first found outside, Merlot was believed to be a kitten struggling to survive. She was small, underweight, and waiting desperately on a doorstep for help, as if saying, “Please… I’ve been waiting for someone to notice me.”
But once Merlot arrived at the vet, the truth came crashing in. During what should have been a routine spay, the medical team found fluid and a mass near her mammary glands. Further testing revealed that Merlot is not a kitten at all — she is an adult cat who had been quietly suffering for too long, abandoned outside with no one to help her.
The biopsy brought devastating news: Merlot has Grade 2 mammary cancer. She is also battling kidney disease and a painful urinary tract infection.
Despite everything, Merlot’s rescuers refused to give up on her. Her future is uncertain, but her will to live is a powerful thing! This friendly, gentle girl was left behind when she needed care the most, and now she needs additional surgery, bloodwork, and ongoing medical support to give her the life she always deserved: safe, loved, and pain-free.
Her foster says that she has spent most of the last few weeks hiding, but comes out as soon as you go near her (she loves people). She’s been coming out more and more and spending more time with the other cats (I think because she’s feeling a little better… she was pretty nervous around them at first). She also doesn’t really react much to the dogs. She’s such a little love, which is surprising since she seems to have spent most of her life outside!
