WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care.

Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.

NAME: Bowen

BREED: Poodle x Retriever 

DOB: Nov 18, 2024 (1 year 3 months)

Home Recommendation: Bowen is a sweet and friendly boy who would do best in a patient loving home where owners are willing to continue training. An adopter that is experienced with the breed would be best! Bowen is smart and catches on quick but needs consistency and structure. Bowen is dog friendly and would do best as either an only dog or with another dog who is also playful. 

WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Bowen was rescued from a municipality shelter and is now ready for his forever home! 

Personality: Bowen is a joyful, loving dog who just needs a bit of continued guidance and structure as he learns. He very much enjoys his human companionship and is playful. He absolutely loves his toys and has a blast playing with his people! He gets very excited when he sees other dogs and is learning how to greet them more calmly. Sometimes his enthusiasm can be a little overwhelming, but he’s working hard on polite doggy manners and making great progress.

Training: Bowen is current mastered potty training and goes potty outside. Bowen is new to leash walking and is also improving with structure on walks. Bowen can get a little overly enthusiastic when excited but he’s actively working on calmer behavior and responds well to redirection. He already knows “sit” and “down” (especially when treats are involved!) and is currently working on mastering “place.” He sleeps through the night in the crate as well, treats help as well! With a little guidance and a couple of gentle reminders, he’ll settle nicely on his spot and stay there. He’s a smart boy who’s eager to learn and continues to improve every day!
