WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals’ lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care. 

Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.

HOME RECOMMENDATION: Brigatine would do best in a loving home where he can be close to his people and feel like part of the family. He is a very sweet boy who loves companionship and wants to be by your side throughout the day. He would thrive with a family who enjoys having a cuddly, affectionate companion and is happy to give him plenty of love, attention, and reassurance. A home where he can stay close to his people and be included in daily activities would be a wonderful fit for Brigatine.

PERSONALITY: Brigatine is a gentle boy who is still getting used to his new environment. Right now, his favorite thing is being held and reassured, which helps him feel safe and comfortable. He has a calm, easygoing personality and does a wonderful job respecting the personal space of both cats and dogs. With a little time and reassurance, Brigatine is sure to continue coming out of his shell and showing just how loving he can be.

TRAINING: Brigatine is doing wonderfully with his leash skills and is fabulous at walking on a leash! He is still working on potty training and has not quite figured out that he should use the bathroom outside yet. For now, he is comfortable using wee-wee pads, so his new family can continue working on transitioning him to outdoor potty breaks with a consistent routine and plenty of positive reinforcement. Brigatine is also still getting used to his crate. A heartbeat teddy has helped provide some extra comfort, and offering toys and treats before going into the crate is helping him build a positive association with crate time. With patience, consistency, and reassurance, Brigatine should continue to make great progress.

WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Some large-scale breeding programs occasionally have dogs and puppies they are unable to place due to medical needs, birth defects, appearance differences, or simply because there is not enough demand. WISE partners with groups working to help provide these dogs with a second chance rather than an uncertain future. We are committed to rescuing and caring for dogs of all kinds — healthy, medically fragile, senior, or those with special needs — and giving them the love, safety, and opportunity they deserve.
